According to Earth Techling News, just last March Hyundai announced it was making its way into the hybrid market introducing the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
April 1st, Kia confirms at the New York International Autoshow that they will be introducing the 2011 Kia Optima hybrid early this fall. It is available in three new and fuel-efficient versions: Theta II powerplants, a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine or a 2.4-liter hybrid. It has direct injection, variable valve timing and six speed transmissions. LX, EX, and SX trim levels will be offered. It is lightweight, same as the Sonata and it is expected to make 37/39 mpg. It also comes with a very high level of standard safety features: six airbags, front active headrests, side-impact door beams, height-adjustable front seatbelts, Lower Anchors, Tethers for Children (LATCH) and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
